Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt
Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt is a strong anti-narcotics initiative being implemented in Kerala jointly by the State Government, Kerala Police, and the Excise Department to combat the drug mafia.
Key Information on Operation Toofan
Main Objectives:
- To completely eradicate the drug mafia and narcotic substances from the State.
- To dismantle drug trafficking networks completely.
- To prevent the trafficking of synthetic drugs such as MDMA.
- To strictly prevent the distribution of drugs targeting schools and colleges.
Method of Operation
Along with police enforcement, the initiative also includes public participation, awareness classes for students, rehabilitation, and other preventive measures.
Launch:
The initiative was officially launched on 2 June 2026.
Second Phase – “Toofan Thaddesham”:
The second phase of the initiative commenced on 28 September 2026, with an emphasis on ensuring active public participation.
Activities:
The second phase includes ward-level Gram Sabhas, door-to-door awareness campaigns, and providing treatment and rehabilitation to persons affected by drug addiction.
About the Initiative
“Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt” is a new initiative launched by the Kerala Police to root out the drug mafia. The initiative is being implemented jointly with the cooperation of the Education, Health, and Excise Departments.
The State-level inauguration of the initiative was conducted by Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri V. D. Satheesan on 2 June 2026 at a function held at Cotton Hill School, Thiruvananthapuram.
Through this initiative, the Kerala Police aims to take strong legal action against drug mafias and build a large-scale people's resistance against the spread of narcotics through active public participation.
The initiative has been conceptualised in a manner suited to the digital age, with the objective of countering the rapid spread of synthetic drugs.
Along with giving the drug mafia a strict warning of the law, the mission also aims to ensure a complete sense of safety and security among the general public.
