The 2026 campaign will be conducted from 17 September to 17 October. Its primary objective is to enhance public participation in cleanliness activities and foster a stronger sense of responsibility among citizens.
Collective Responsibility
The campaign is implemented through a collaborative approach involving government institutions and the community. Its aim is to establish cleanliness as a shared responsibility of every individual and the community as a whole.
Public Participation
The campaign seeks to ensure the active participation of various sections of society, including students, youth, families, voluntary organisations, traders, Local Self-Government Institutions and the general public.

Clarify the roles and responsibilities of different sections of society.
Increase the participation of students and young people.
Strengthen public participation in cleanliness activities.
Foster a sense of collective responsibility at the community level.

Who Should Participate?
Cleanliness is not the responsibility of any one section of society alone. The strength of Swachhata Hi Seva lies in the active cooperation of all sections of the community.
Flood-Affected States and Union Territories
In areas affected by floods or other natural disasters, special importance should be given to cleanliness and public health alongside relief and rehabilitation activities.
High standards of sanitation and hygiene must be maintained to prevent the spread of diseases.
Where circumstances permit, activities under SHS 2026 may also be conducted in such areas at a later stage.
Cleanliness — Everyone’s Participation
The goal of a Clean India can become a reality only when every citizen actively participates in cleanliness activities alongside government institutions.
